Due to the outbreak of the Corona virus which caused all cinemas to shut their doors, Tenet became the most anticipated film in 2020.
Now the cinemas are open and it’s time to
unravel this jigsaw puzzle but alas in 2021, I still haven’t rapped my head
around it (oh! sweet confusion). Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, it’s
his most expensive original work so far.
Tenet stars John David Washington as “the Protagonist”
and Josh Patterson as Neil and knowing how mentally engaging Christopher Nolan’s
films are, I had to engross myself in watching Tenet but I didn’t realize
until the end credits were rolling that John David Washington’s character “the
Protagonist” wasn’t addressed by any name.
Anyways, the Protagonist is a CIA agent who is hired by a secret group
called Tenet to unravel the mystery of bullets with inverted entropy. In unravelling this mystery, the Protagonist
discovers the maker of the bullets has plans to destroy the world and in order
to prevent this; the Protagonist has to go forward and back in time.
Right from the first scene, I was
confused!!!!; each scene was rushed, the audio was terrible but bit by bit it
started reeling me in. I have watched it like three times now and am clear up
to the point where the plutonium was stolen by the Protagonist but after that
point up to the end, am still going to need to watch it like fifty times more
and that’s what I advise.
In the film, the concept of reverse entropy is liken to time travel only you don’t
need a wormhole or time travel capsule but a “turnstile” which enables or
rather inverts and reverts objects or a person: you move backwards or rather do
things backwards; weird right. But you’ll love it the trick is to rewind a scene as many times as it
takes to understand.
The entire cast worked together like a
charm but Josh Patterson impressed me the most playing the Protagonist’s right-hand
man. Each scene is so relevant to the entire film and played out pretty quickly
that when you miss a scene it’s like a relevant piece is missing. I am in no
way done with this film, so expect an edit but till then, go get your head turned
a bit. Laterz
