"...men that fought for something that wasn't theirs and what they did was MAGNIFICENT"
Denzel Washington and Antione Fuqua team up again in Magnificent Seven, an American western action movie which is a remake of a 1960 film with the same name.
So the thing about doing a remake is you really have to step it up especially if the original movie was really good. The original Magnificent Seven is a classic and incidentally, the original was also a remake of a 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai directed by Akira Kurosawa, which is also a CLASSIC!. So this was pretty much a very uphill task for Antoine Fuqua.
The plot of this movie is pretty much the same as the original but with a few changes. The small town of Rosecreek is terrorised by a mining baron, Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard) and his men, to sell their gold-laden land at a fraction of its worth. Out of desperation, two of the towns people, Emma Cullen (Haley Bennet) and Teddy Q (Luke Grimes) hire Denzel Washington (Sam Chisolm) a warrant officer to help them defend the town of Rosecreek. Chisolm also recruits six other men.
The actors gave us really dedicated performances, loved them. There was humour, lots of gun fights, knife throwing and arrow shooting. Hot guys in boots and Stetsons. Hmm! Give me a good western any day. Sorry I digress. So anyway, unlike the movie Suicide Squad (I can't believe I just mentioned that movie) where we were introduced to the heroes, we didn't get that in this movie (aww).
Screen play and dialogue were on point. And the final showdown was quiet a battle. Both the good guys and the bad guys had a few surprises. I know that justice must prevail and all but it was funny how the good guys hit more of the bad guys. But I look at it this way, if the bad guys were just as accurate this movie would have been over in 20 seconds. Duh!
Anyway, not all remakes are wonderful but this movie is good. Even the 1960 Magnificent Seven had its own fair share of criticisms and it wasn’t even a commercial success in the US but was huge overseas and eventually became a classic. Will this movie follow the line of the original? I don't know but I know that I truly enjoyed this movie and I think you should definitely go see it.
