I can’t believe I had this movie for a week and didn’t watch it. The movie, Mr Church, is very captivating, and Eddie Murphy’s performance, all I can say is waoh!
The movie is set in 1971 Los Angeles, and begins where single mom, Marie Brookes (Natasha McElhone) and her 10year old daughter Charlotte (Britt Robertson) are surprised by the arrival of a stranger - Mr Henry Joseph Church (Eddie Murphy) to their home. Marie, who has been battling breast cancer, discovers that Mr Church was hired by her deceased ex-lover to cook for them and maintain the house for a period of six months in which she was diagnosed to live. However, months turns into years and a family bond is forged forever.
This movie was written by Susan McMartin based on a true life “Mr Church” who helped raise her and touched the lives of her and her family. This is a story of love and family and I can’t say it enough, Murphy’s performance was brilliant. I cried at the end. What’s really unbelievable is this movie had a lot of negative reviews cos it was viewed as a racist movie, why must everything have to be about race. If the cast were all white or all black then I guess it would have been okay for critics. But the thing is not everything happens normally. A man came into a family and showed them what sacrifice means. Love between the most unlikely of people. And after his passing, Charlotte just wanted to let people know about the extra-ordinary man who came into their lives.
Anyway, for me this movie is a winner, you should see it for yourself. Cheers.
