I don't really care for a remake of a classic film but when done right, am up for it. And boy is this film done right. It didn't follow the usual storyline of Kong captured and taken to New York but rather all the action takes place on skull island and it's a fight for survival.
The film is set during post Vietnam war and a team of scientists and soldiers travel to an island for an expedition. From the moment the crew got to the island, it's just pure entertainment - seismic chargers are dropped, we have explosions and all of a sudden woosh! A tree from no where smashes into one of the military helicopters. There's chaos everywhere and then we see Kong standing tall with a blazing orange sun behind him (Awesome!) of course Kong goes ape crazy on them leaving most of the crew scattered all over the island. They try to regroup and find their way out of the island but discover that their are more creatures on the island than just a giant monkey.
An all star cast whose performances were alright, especially from Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly. I really don't understand what Jing Tian was doing in this film. You could just cut out her character from the story and the film would still go on.
Nice visuals, awesome CGI - some of the creatures on the island were unbelievable.
Great monster movie. Can't wait for the sequel in which Kong will be pitched against godzilla, set to be released in 2020.
