The first marvel movie for the year is out and Black
Panther is sensational. For months we were teased by the trailer and I can tell
you it is worth the hype, although I was a bit disappointed by the climax. I
wanted an unforgettable fight scene between T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick
Boseman) and Killmonger/Yellow Panther (Michael B. Jordan) but don’t blame me
am just a sucker for a good fight.
The movie takes place right after the incidents of Captain
America: Civil War, T’Challa/Black Panther returns to his home country in
Africa, Wakanda, where he has to take up the throne after the death of his
father and is faced with the intricacies of ruling a kingdom. The top most of this being if Wakanda’s
precious metal, vibranium (used to
create Captain America’s shield and the source of Wakandan superior technology) should be shared with the rest of world.
So here comes Killmonger unknown to be the son of
T’Challa’s uncle, who issues a challenge to T'Challa
for the throne. Well I don't have to say much, T’Challa
accepts the challenge and you guessed it, he loses to Killmonger and has to fight to get his
throne back.
Am so in love with this movie, there is the
predominantly black cast, a black superhero, jaw-dropping
action
that made the audience at the cinema scream and clap (oh boy! Me self clap o), kick ass females, the Bond-like gadgets. The
normally serious Chadwick Boseman actually cracked a few well-timed jokes, I
just could not believe it. Above all, I loved the artistic work put into this
movie: the wakandan language, culture, the costumes, the artwork, all
portraying African heritage with a modern twist.
Wakanda was transformed into an African Utopia, it
made me wish that my country was actually like that. If only African nations
had vibranium, we would be so cool (hahahha).
I can’t wait
for Avengers: Infinity War. Laterz
