I had never been eager to watch this movie but when I saw the first few scenes, what caught my attention was the close up shots, the direction of the cameras catching every emotion, every detail especially of Jennifer Lawrence (Mother). I was spell bound “what was the next scene going to bring”?
But half way through I just couldn't wait for the movie to end. I only understood the meaning of the film at the end when Him (Javier Bardem) crushed Mother’s (Jennifer Lawrence) heart to reveal another crystal which after placing it on a pedestal, transformed the house back to the way it used to be but this time there was a different Mother.
The directing was brilliant, the editing and special effects were good. Great acting from Jennifer and Michelle Pfeiffer. I enjoyed the story behind the veil(the biblical connotations), although God wants our adulation, I don't agree that he is selfish or self-obsessed.
Am pretty sure a lot of audiences (especially in naija) wouldn’t care or have the patience for this type of movie.
The message I would take from this movie is its good to be selfless but don't be a door-mat. That being said, I think it will be a while before I see it again. Laterz.
