It’s been a while since I saw a
submarine thriller and Hunter killer is actually not bad. It’s
based on a 2012 novel by Don Keith and George Wallace called “Firing Point” and
Gerard Butler plays the role of Joe Glass, the captain of the USS Arkansas
submarine (“the hunter”). Glass and his crew were sent to investigate the
disappearance of another US submarine and during the cause of events, a coup d’
etat against the Russian President was discovered. So it’s up to Glass, a few
navy seals and unexpected allies to save the day.
I thought it was going to be one
of those Gerard Butler movies, a one-man army/cliché lines and doing badass
moves but it was rather a subdued movie with the action coming from the few
navy seals and the submarines. The movie is divided mostly into three parts: we
have Gerard Butler and his crew in “the Hunter”; Common with Gary Oldman getting
angry and all that in the Pentagon; and
the navy seals carrying out a daring rescue of the Russian President in a
Russian naval bay.
Hunter Killer might not
have an original storyline but I enjoyed seeing Butler play a different role. Laterz
